SHIFT SUPERVISOR

Shift Supervisors create great experiences for partners and customers alike. They run shifts, lead the store team and make decisions that impact store operations. This role is a pathway to develop leadership skills and expand your responsibility.

Shift Supervisor Job Profile:

Position: Shift Supervisor

Overview: As a shift supervisor, you will play a key role in overseeing the daily operations of a coffee shop or café. Working closely with the store manager, you will ensure the smooth functioning of the establishment, lead a team of baristas, and provide exceptional customer service. This position requires strong leadership skills, a customer-centric mindset, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Team Management:

    • Supervise and provide guidance to a team of baristas, ensuring they deliver excellent customer service.

    • Assign tasks, set priorities, and delegate responsibilities effectively.

    • Train new team members on coffee preparation techniques, customer service, and store procedures.

    • Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and collaboration.

    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.

  2. Customer Service:

    • Ensure outstanding customer experiences by maintaining high standards of service.

    • Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints, ensuring prompt resolution and customer satisfaction.

    • Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere.

    • Monitor customer flow and assist with customer service during busy periods.

    • Seek opportunities to enhance the customer experience and implement improvements.

  3. Operations Management:

    • Open and close the store, following proper procedures and ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently.

    • Manage cash handling, including cash registers, balancing, and deposits.

    • Oversee inventory management, including monitoring stock levels, placing orders, and receiving deliveries.

    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and food handling guidelines.

    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store, including the coffee preparation area and customer seating area.

  4. Quality Control:

    • Ensure consistency in coffee preparation, beverage presentation, and overall product quality.

    • Monitor and enforce adherence to standard operating procedures and recipe guidelines.

    • Conduct regular checks on equipment functionality, cleanliness, and maintenance.

    • Address any issues related to product quality, equipment, or supplies promptly and effectively.

    • Collaborate with the store manager to implement quality improvement initiatives.

  5. Communication and Reporting:

    • Communicate effectively with the store manager, providing updates on operations, team performance, and customer feedback.

    • Maintain accurate records and reports, including sales data, inventory counts, and employee schedules.

    • Collaborate with the store manager and team members to develop and implement effective communication strategies.

    • Participate in team meetings and relay information to the baristas regarding new initiatives, promotions, and changes in procedures.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in the coffee or hospitality industry.

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with team members and customers.

  • Customer-centric mindset, with a focus on delivering exceptional service and resolving customer issues.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, beverage recipes, and quality control measures.

  • Familiarity with cash handling procedures and inventory management.

  • Flexibility in working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Adherence to health and safety regulations and food handling guidelines.
